Fairport Baptist Homes is ready to lease units in its new Assisted Living Community.  When complete, it will have 33 one-bedroom units with nine a little larger to accommodate couples.  The apartments feature a bedroom and bathroom with grab bars for easy maneuvering during showering.  A call cord is included in the bathroom and above the bed for residents to request help if needed.  The staff will carry wireless phones to immediately communicate with residents.  The units also include a modern kitchenette with a refrigerator and microwave oven as well as a living room.  Residents will furnish the apartments with their own belongings for a more personal touch.

Residents will also have access to common areas for dining, socializing or watching TV just outside their doors.  There will be 11 apartments per floor.  Each floor has a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, parlor and laundry facilities.  Services include:  three meals a day and accommodations for special dietary needs; light housekeeping and laundry services; 24-hour nursing support; help with medications and an in-house pharmacy; social, recreational and spiritual activities; and a beauty salon and barber shop.

These apartments are designed for people who should no longer be in their own homes but don’t need skilled nursing.  The Assisted Living Community is wedged between independent living and needing skilled nursing.  This approach is to help provide a continuum of care for seniors so they can stay in their community and get the services they need.

Fairport Baptist Homes is home to many seniors who require skilled nursing care.  It also offers a variety of services including subsidized housing apartments, retirement communities, adult day care, community case management, transportation and child care services.

The Women’s Service Board of the Fairport Baptist Home is an active group of women from area churches who are concerned with the needs and happiness of the residents. They meet the first Friday of each month from September to June at 11:00 a.m. at the Home but activities and services of the WSB continue all year. The members disburse tickets for the Corporation Dinner, sing in the WSB Chorus, promote the Family Fund, help on Green Thumb Day, work in the Plain ‘n Fancy Shoppe, and provide a Welcome visit to new residents. The members also provide magazines and newspapers, birthday, Christmas, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts and floral arrangements and entertainment for the Centenarian Tea. Money to fund these functions is raised from Fundraising trips, a Sunshine Fund, Make-a-Dollar Grow, and by collecting dues. Campbell’s labels are saved for the Home’s Seasons Child Care and coupons for the Plain ‘n Fancy Shoppe. The most important part of being a WSB member is the friendship and love both given and received by each of us as we visit and get to know our special friends at the Homes. A friend is a gift from God and we count every member of the Homes’ family as our special gift from God.

First Baptist Church of Brockport has delegates to this board who contribute to the activities and visit with individual residents on the first Friday of the month. Our current delegates are Mary Way, Betty Erdmann, and Rosemary Smith with retired member Jo Blossom. Anyone interested in accompanying them on first Fridays should make contact for a ride. All are welcome to assist and visit the residents.
