MUSIC CONCERT
Thursday, April 30th, 2009News Release:A free organ concert will be presented at the First Baptist Church of Brockport, 124 Main Street Brockport, on May 8, at 7:30 p.m. Two Eastman School of Music students will be performing on an Aeolian Skinner organ which was originally built in 1949 for Harold Gleason, former head of the Eastman School of Music Organ Department, and purchased in 1968 by First Baptist Church.
Jeff Kempskie, a student of William Porter, is currently working toward a Master’s degree in Organ Performance and Literature. He also sings with the Schola Cantorum, accompanies the Eastman Repertory Singers and serves as organist at Webster Presbyterian Church. Annie Laver, a student of Hans Davidsson, is pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree. She has received a number of awards including first prize in the 2003 Boston Chapter AGO/Quimby competition for young organists. She teaches secondary organ lessons at Eastman and handles logistics for the department’s annual Eastman Rochester Organ Iniative Festivals.
